Candriam has announced changes in the leadership of its Global Thematic Equity team. The manager has appointed Servaas Michielssens, PhD, CFA, Head of Healthcare, effective from February 12, 2024. Servaas, who returns to Candriam after 16 months at a venture capital manager, will lead the health sector strategies, which represent more than 4,000 million dollars in assets under management. Servaas will co-manage the Candriam Life Science strategy with Pierre Vaurice. Servaas has a solid experience and track record in the health sector, as he was previously co-director of Candriam's biotechnology and oncology strategies.

Linden Thomson, CFA, joins Candriam as Senior Fund Manager and will manage the biotechnology and oncology strategies, effective from February 19, 2024. Linden brings more than two decades of experience and joins from AXA IM, where he led the firm's biotechnology strategy, being one of the first specialists in investments in the biotechnology sector.

Transition in the succession of the Global Thematic Equity Manager

These appointments align with Candriam's strategic succession planning, as Rudi Van den Eynde, current Director of Global Thematic Equity, prepares for his retirement in the first quarter of 2025. In anticipation of this transition, Johan Van der Biest, current Deputy Director of Global Thematic Equity, will hold the position of Co-Director alongside Rudi. After Rudi's retirement, Johan will assume the position of Director of Global Thematic Equity. Johan's 25 years at Candriam have been marked by his significant contributions to the growth and innovation of the company's thematic platform.

Johan will lead a team of 21 professionals, with the aim of expanding Candriam's thematic offering in line with customer needs. There will be no changes in his fund management responsibilities.

"We extend a warm welcome to Servaas and Linden to the team. Their experience and track record will further strengthen our leadership position in the health sector, and their decision to join Candriam highlights the reputation that Candriam has in this field". Candriam has long been at the forefront of thematic investment driven by global megatrends, with a successful track record in the health sector for over 20 years. "We extend our most sincere thanks to Rudi for his contribution over all these years, and in particular for the creation of the oncology strategy. We also congratulate Johan on his new position, in recognition of his good work over the years. These appointments ensure continuity, stability and excellence in fund management throughout our Global Thematic Equity team. I trust that the new direction will continue to provide exceptional value to our clients in such an important sector".
