María has more than 20 years of experience in the investment fund industry. Since starting in the industry, and more specifically in the area of Asset Management, she has covered various functions and areas of expertise, which has allowed her to understand the investment fund industry from many perspectives. A truly 360° approach!

In 2009 she joined Edmond de Rothschild, participating in the opening of the office in Madrid. Today, she heads the Sales business in Spain.

What made you decide to go into the financial sector? Did you have any other vocations?

I actually started working in this sector by chance. A friend of mine introduced me to the Private Banking company she worked for and I started for the asset management division. Since then,  I’ve worked in asset management, advisory, and sales divisions for different entities, but always been linked to the investment fund industry.

I’d probably have worked in an area where I still help and advise others, such as consulting, communications, or services.

What do you like most about your job? How do you stay motivated?

What I like most about my job is the balance between technical and social values; the combination between markets and clients. I always have to be alert to the macro environment, markets, and the movements carried out by the portfolio managers and, for the client, be sensitive to changing trends and investor requirements. It requires you to always be vigilant, which is very inspiring and motivating.

What are the keys to success in the distribution of funds?

Once you have an interesting range of products, service is the key. In my opinion, being close to clients, offering them the best service, and crucially, understanding their needs, makes all the difference.

Which investment sectors and funds have particularly interested clients in the first half of 2023?

This first semester of the year has been very challenging. On the Fixed Income side, interest has been highly marked by capturing credit opportunities that the markets have offered after the correction experienced in 2022. Without a doubt, the star has been maturity fund with visible results, which is highly appreciated by investors at this time in the market.

On Equities, we have seen a lot of interest in thematic products that offer diversification but with a focus on future trends, with themes such as Big Data or Human Capital.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Reading relaxes me a lot; It helps me to disconnect from reality. I also love meeting with my friends and enjoying my family time.
