BlackRock has announced the launch of the iShares Europe Infrastructure Builders UCITS ETF (BLDR), a new exchange-traded fund that offers specific exposure to European companies linked to the construction, modernization, and improvement of the continent's infrastructure.
The manager frames this launch in a context of sustained infrastructure renewal in Europe, driven by public policies, the modernization of the energy system, and a long-term investment cycle in key sectors of the regional economy.
According to the information disseminated by the firm, the new ETF seeks to provide access to a structural opportunity derived from the increase in infrastructure investment in Europe. Among the factors supporting this trend, BlackRock highlights that the European Union's electricity consumption could increase by 60% between 2023 and 2030, which would require an estimated investment of 584,000 million euros in electricity networks.
The fund is designed to offer diversified and transparent exposure to companies with a significant link to the value chain of European infrastructures. Its universe includes sectors such as construction, electrification, industrial equipment, materials, and logistics, with the aim of capturing both the development phase of new infrastructures and the subsequent revenues associated with maintenance and services, without depending on a single sector.
The iShares Europe Infrastructure Builders UCITS ETF replicates the STOXX Europe Infrastructure Builders Index. For its composition, it selects companies from the STOXX Europe AC Universal All Cap Index that obtain at least 50% of their revenues from activities linked to infrastructures.
In addition, the index sets a limit of 8% by value to promote diversification and reduce the risk of concentration. It also excludes companies involved in controversial armament or considered non-compliant with international reference standards based on norms.
As Europe invests in its infrastructure, investors are increasingly looking for ways to align their portfolios with long-term growth opportunities closer to home. By combining BlackRock's scale with our knowledge of the local market, BLDR offers European investors transparent and rule-based exposure to the companies that help build and strengthen the region.
