Aberdeen Investments is taking its ETF ambitions to Europe. The firm has appointed Caroline Hertrich as Head of ETF Strategy for the UK and EMEA, a newly created senior role announced today to drive the growth of its ETF range across the region.
The hire builds on the momentum of Aberdeen's US ETF business, which now manages around $21 billion in assets after doubling in size in 2025, and has made the firm the third-largest manager by assets in the US commodity ETF market.
Hertrich's mandate is to translate the success of the US platform into a European growth story. According to Steven Dunn, the firm will apply the same selective approach it has followed in the United States, focusing only on areas where it has conviction and a differentiated proposition.
Caroline joins Aberdeen at an exciting stage in the evolution of our ETF business. She brings extensive ETF experience, strong commercial leadership and a proven track record of helping investment firms grow and expand across multiple markets. As in the United States, we will focus on those areas where we have conviction, a differentiated proposition and where we identify a clear client need.

In her new role, Hertrich will work closely with the investment, product, distribution and marketing teams to grow Aberdeen's ETF platform, strengthen client relationships and support the development of future ETF capabilities across the region.
Hertrich brings more than 15 years of experience in ETFs, index investing and investment solutions in EMEA and the United States. She joins from Bloomberg, where she was head of index sales for buy-side clients in the UK and Ireland and helped expand the firm's index presence across asset classes.
Before Bloomberg, she held senior roles at FTSE Russell and BlackRock, playing a key part in ETF product strategy, distribution and client relationships in European markets. Her experience includes managing the product lifecycle of BlackRock's EMEA investment offering, and she was a pioneer in the use of ETFs with institutional clients.
Aberdeen sees Europe as a less mature but fast-evolving ETF market, with growing interest in active strategies.
Europe is at an earlier stage than the United States when it comes to ETFs, but interest is growing, particularly in active strategies. Caroline will play a key role in shaping our plans for Europe and turning them into long-term commercial success, fully focused on client solutions.
Steven Dunn, Global Head of ETFs, Aberdeen Investments
For Hertrich, ETFs are no longer a niche tool but the vehicle of choice for a new generation of investors as well as for seasoned market participants.
The European ETF market is entering an exciting phase of development, especially in active ETFs, where investors are increasingly looking for differentiated investment ideas through flexible and accessible structures. ETFs are no longer a niche investment tool and are rapidly becoming the vehicle of reference for both a new generation of investors and experienced market participants, reflecting their growing role as one of the most dynamic and innovative areas of asset management. In this regard, Aberdeen is well placed to capitalise on this trend thanks to its established ETF platform and its investment track record. I am delighted to join the firm and to work closely with my colleagues across investments, product and distribution to broaden our ETF offering and help more investors benefit from Aberdeen's expertise. I look forward to bringing my experience across the entire ETF and fund value chain as we build the future.
