Generali Investments has today launched a natively tokenized share class of one of its money market funds, a move that places it among the first major asset managers in this segment and paves the way for distributed ledger technology (DLT) to be extended across its entire client base.
Woody Bradford, CEO and Managing Director of Generali Investments, frames the initiative as part of the technology agenda of an asset manager with €759 billion in assets under management (as of June 30, 2026).
The new share class belongs to the Generali Money Market Fund, a fund domiciled in Luxembourg and issued and managed by Generali Asset Management. It uses DLT to digitally represent and record the shares. For now, only authorized companies within the Generali Group can subscribe to it; other investors cannot.
According to the asset manager, this is the first milestone in a broader tokenized investment offering that will extend this technology to all Generali Investments clients and lay the foundations for wider distribution and greater operational efficiency over the long term.
As the adoption of tokenization accelerates across financial markets, asset managers must act quickly to turn its potential into practical value. Building on the progress already made in artificial intelligence and automation, this launch further advances our technology agenda. It combines our established investment expertise with a more efficient, digitally enabled way of serving clients, helping us meet their evolving expectations and stay at the forefront of innovation in our industry.

Generali Investments expects DLT to bring significant benefits to investors over time. These include near-instant settlement and faster access to redemption proceeds compared with traditional settlement cycles, as well as fully digital subscription, redemption, and reporting processes.
The asset manager also anticipates greater flexibility through extended trading windows and improved liquidity via secondary-market trading.
The tokenized real-world asset (RWA) market has nearly quadrupled since the beginning of 2025, reaching $39 billion in September 2026, according to RWA.xyz. Bonds and money market funds are leading this expansion and are emerging as the main gateway for traditional finance to digital markets.
Looking further ahead, the article cites estimates that these assets could become a multi-trillion-dollar market by the beginning of the next decade: $2.3 trillion by 2030, according to Morgan Stanley and Oliver Wyman, and $19 trillion by 2033, according to Boston Consulting Group and Ripple.
Emiliano Di Giammatteo, Chief Operating Officer of Generali Investments, argues that money market funds are an attractive starting point for this modernization.
Tokenization and digital assets can play an important role in modernizing our investment fund infrastructure. Money market funds are an attractive starting point because of their potential to broaden distribution while enabling more efficient liquidity and collateral management, both in traditional capital markets and for stablecoin issuers. They could also become a fundamental component of a more connected and programmable financial ecosystem.
