Rathbones has confirmed that Jonathan Sorrell has officially succeeded Paul Stockton as group chief executive, following regulatory approval. The appointment was announced earlier this year and took effect on 18 August.
Sorrell replaces Stockton, who announced his retirement in March 2025 after a long career at the wealth management group. Stockton steps down from the group and Rathbones Investment Management boards but will remain available until the end of December to support the transition.
During his tenure, Stockton held senior roles including managing director of Rathbones Investment Management and group finance director, before becoming CEO. He oversaw the integration with Investec Wealth & Investment in 2024 and presided over growth in funds under management and administration from £9bn to £109bn.
Sorrell joins Rathbones from Capstone Investment Advisers, where he had served as president since 2020. He previously held senior positions at Man Group, including chief financial officer and president.
On his appointment, Sorrell described it as an honour and emphasised the responsibility of continuing to deliver for clients, employees and shareholders. He also said he looks forward to working with Stockton during the handover period.
