Former Schroders Group CEO lends his weight to a specialist boutique riding a wave of renewed interest in active equity management.
Chikara Investments has announced that Peter Harrison, former Group Chief Executive of Schroders plc, has joined the firm as a Strategic Advisor. Harrison, who led one of Europe's largest asset managers from March 2016 to November 2024, will support Chikara's leadership team on strategy, governance and culture as the boutique scales up.
His credentials need little introduction. Over a 35-year career in asset management, Harrison served as Chair of the Investment Association and sat on the FCA Markets Practitioner Panel. He currently holds board positions at Marsh McLennan Inc and Lazard Inc, and is Chair of Morgan Sindall plc.
I'm delighted to be working with Chikara at such an exciting point in its development, he said. The firm's specialist focus on markets like Japan and India — where deep research and local understanding are critical — makes it well placed to thrive in today's more complex global environment.
Harrison's arrival reflects a broader shift in the industry. After a decade in which passive strategies dominated flows, changing market conditions have rekindled interest in research-driven active management — particularly in less efficient markets where local expertise matters most. Chikara's specialist focus on Japan and India positions it squarely at the centre of that conversation.
James Tollemache, CEO of Chikara, summed up the significance of the hire: Having Peter's counsel as a Strategic Advisor is a significant endorsement of what we are building at Chikara. His input across culture, high governance standards, sensible growth and strategic advice are invaluable as we progress.
