UBS AM has announced today the launch of two ETFs designed to offer simple access to the Indian equity market. This dual passive management proposal allows investors to align their allocation according to their investment objectives and ESG preferences.
The UBS MSCI India SF UCITS ETF offers broad exposure to large and mid-cap Indian companies by replicating the MSCI India Index. With 160 components, the index represents approximately 85% of the Indian equity universe.
Although its value can fluctuate based on the underlying index, the fund uses a synthetic replica (swap-based), which can be advantageous as, currently, synthetic ETFs are not subject to capital gains tax in India.
The UBS MSCI India Universal UCITS ETF replicates the MSCI India Universal Low Carbon Select 5% Issuer Capped Index, which increases exposure to companies with strong and improving ESG profiles, systematically excluding those that do not meet established environmental, social or climate criteria.
This ETF uses a physical replica, directly holding Indian shares to ensure transparency and consistency between the ESG profile of the fund and its benchmark index.
This fund, aligned with Article 8 of the SFDR, adds to UBS's range of Universal ESG ETFs, which already includes strategies on ACWI, Australia, Canada, China, EMU, Japan, and the United States.
The ETFs will be listed on the SIX Swiss, XETRA and Borsa Italiana exchanges throughout November.

We have seen a strong increase in interest in Indian equities - UCITS assets invested in this market have more than doubled in the last two years and already exceed 10,000 million USD -. That's why we are pleased to offer our clients two options in this segment: the synthetic ETF UBS MSCI India SF, with its tax advantages¹; and the UBS MSCI India Universal, focused on ESG criteria.
