Vanguard has announced the launch of the Vanguard Global Core Bond Fund and the Vanguard Global Strategic Bond Fund. Both funds join other existing and top-performing active fixed income vehicles from Vanguard, the Vanguard Global Credit Bond Fund and the Vanguard Emerging Markets Bond Fund, at a time when the firm continues to expand its fixed income offering.
The Vanguard Global Core Bond Fund and the Vanguard Global Strategic Bond Fund are domiciled in Ireland and will be jointly managed by Ales Koutny, head of international rates, and Sarang Kulkarni, chief manager of the strategies of the Vanguard Global Credit and pan-European corporate debt.
Both funds offer broad exposure to global fixed income markets. The Vanguard Global Core Bond Fund will predominantly hold high-quality debt from issuers in developed markets. They may also invest in high yield and emerging market bonds, although the Vanguard Global Strategic Bond Fund will have more flexibility to invest in these types of assets. The Vanguard Global Strategic Bond Fund is therefore aimed at investors seeking additional returns.
Investors do not want surprises in their fixed income funds. Our approach is based on staying away from concentrated macroeconomic positions and focusing instead on systematically finding value opportunities through a fundamental and "bottom-up" selection of securities, and being smart about risk.
Ales Koutny, head of international rates, Vanguard
Our track record and the capabilities we have accumulated for the Global Credit and Emerging Market Bond strategies, the size and experience of our investment team allow us to seek diversified opportunities in all markets, rather than relying on one or two large positions.
Sarang Kulkarni, co-manager, Vanguard
The launch of the Vanguard Global Core Bond Fund and the Vanguard Global Strategic Bond Fund is an important step for us. Higher interest rates and an aging population are fueling client demand for bonds; at the same time, the fixed income market remains opaque and expensive. We will continue to develop our active and indexed fixed income offering in the UK and Europe.
Jon Cleborne, director of Vanguard for Europe
