BNP Paribas’ THEAM Quant platform, in partnership with BNP Paribas Exane Research, has launched the THEAM Quant – Nuclear Opportunities Fund, designed to capitalize on the growing long-term investment potential within the nuclear energy value chain. This new fund aims to address the rising global electricity demand and energy security challenges, positioning itself as a key player in the evolving energy landscape.
The fund’s strategy focuses on three critical areas:
Leveraging BNP Paribas’ Quantitative Investment Strategies (QIS), the fund uses a systematic equity investment approach, combining in-depth fundamental analysis with proprietary AI-driven research. The fund’s scoring model emphasizes financial performance, ESG factors, and diversification to ensure a balanced risk-return profile.
Classified under SFDR Article 8, the fund integrates Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. It excludes companies involved in nuclear weapons manufacturing or human rights violations, and maintains a carbon footprint that is 20% lower than the initial investment universe.
The fund offers global diversification, selecting stocks from around 3,000 liquid companies across Europe, North America, and Asia. Portfolio weights are optimized and rebalanced quarterly to enhance exposure to the most promising investment opportunities.
Vincent Berard, Head of BNP Paribas Global Markets’ Product Strategy for THEAM Quant Funds, highlighted the strategic value of this fund. “We saw an untapped opportunity to expand beyond the narrow focus of existing nuclear products, which often concentrate on uranium miners. Our approach diversifies exposure across the entire value chain, unlocking greater investment potential.”
Roberto Bartolomei, Head of BNP Paribas Global Markets’ Sales for THEAM Quant Funds, emphasized the sector’s long-term growth. “With global electricity demand expected to rise by 130% by 2050 and the growing shift away from fossil fuels, nuclear energy is poised to play a crucial role in the global energy transition. Our investment process targets the best-positioned companies within this dynamic sector.”
