Allianz Global Investors has announced today the launch of its first active exchange-traded funds (active ETFs) for European investors. After its debut in Taiwan in 2025, the firm plans to introduce this new vehicle in various European markets during the second half of 2026, reinforcing its commitment to customer-focused innovation and to combining active management with the transparency and liquidity inherent in the ETF format.
After the inaugural launch in Taiwan in 2025, Allianz GI will begin to offer its range of active ETFs to clients in different European markets from the second half of 2026. With this step, the manager expands its product architecture to meet the growing demand for solutions that integrate active decision-making with efficient execution and intraday trading facilitated by ETFs.
Active ETFs have established themselves as a growth engine in Europe. According to forecasts, assets under management in this category will reach 165,000 million euros in 2029, driven by a compound annual growth rate of 25%, well above the 10.2% forecast for the overall European asset management market. In this context, Allianz GI's move seeks to capitalize on an upward trend and respond to investors who prioritize transparency, liquidity, and alpha potential in a single vehicle.
The value of active management has never been so evident. It's not just about identifying tomorrow's winners, but about managing risk and volatility, and responding to market changes in real time. As we expand our presence in active ETFs in Europe, leaning on the experience gained in Asia, we will continue to focus on delivering long-term performance, risk management discipline, and solutions tailored to our clients.
Tobias Pross, CEO at Allianz GI
Entering the active ETF market naturally aligns with our purpose of serving the diverse needs of our clients: as these evolve, we evolve with them. We know that active ETFs have become increasingly attractive to part of our client base, as they offer efficient access to the benefits of active investment, combined with intraday market trading and transparency.
