DWS has announced the appointment of Benjardin Gärtner as the new Global Head of Equities, effective from September 1, 2025. Gärtner comes from Union Investment, where he has held the role of Managing Director of Union Investment Privatfonds GmbH since March 2023 and, since 2015, has led the division dedicated to managing equity portfolios.
In his new role, Gärtner will have responsibility for DWS's global equity platform, coordinating a team of over 70 experts and overseeing assets under management of 107 billion euros. He will report directly to Vincenzo Vedda, Global CIO of DWS.
The current Global Co-Heads of Equities, Andre Köttner and Dr. Thomas Schüßler, along with the Head of Equities for the United States, David Bianco, will become part of his team, contributing to a synergistic approach to equity management.
Benjardin Gärtner's career stands out for deep experience in global financial markets and solid expertise in asset management. Prior to his entry into Union Investment, he held various prominent roles at Deutsche Bank AG between Frankfurt and London, including that of Co-Head of the German equity team.
Between 2004 and 2010 he worked in the equity sales division of Goldman Sachs and, previously, from 1997 to 2004, he was a portfolio manager and analyst at various units of the Allianz group's asset management. During that period he also spent two years in the United States as a senior equities analyst at Allianz of America in Westport.
Gärtner completed a banking apprenticeship and earned a degree in business economics from the Technische Universität in Berlin. His appointment represents a strategic move for DWS, aimed at further strengthening its position in the global equity management landscape.
