After joining Morgan Stanley Investment Management back in 2014 as aa credit analyst, Budi Suharto was the leading manager on the MS INVF Emerging Markets Corporate Deft fund. After Suharto's exit, Akbar Causer will lead the strategy. Causer was already co-managing the fund, as he was added as the co-manager of the MS INVF Emerging Markets Corporate Deft fund in July 2022.
The departure of Suharto follows a steady stream of senior exits from Morgan Stanley IM's fixed income team in recent years. Warren Mar, who had been head of emerging markets corporate debt and lead manager of the fund since 2012, retired in July 2022, just after Eric Baurmeister, who left the firm in February 2022.
Causer will manage a $625m strategy which lost a 6.2% over the last three years, overcoming the -8.5% average return that the Emerging Markets Global Corporates sector registered during the same period.
Causer already managed similar strategies at Eaton Vance and as the leader of the combined emerging markets corporate debt team, once Eaton Vance was taken over by Morgan Stanley IM.
