UK-focused social infrastructure real estate investment manager Newcore Capital (“Newcore”) has appointed Tim Thorp, formerly Head of Finance and Operations at Panattoni Investment Management, as its new Chief Operating Officer.
In this role, Thorp will work closely with Chief Executive Officer Hugo Llewelyn, concentrating on capital raising, fund management, business operations, investor relations, and debt financing, while also overseeing the firm’s daily operations and long-term strategic planning.
Thorp brings over 25 years of executive experience in financial, operational, and investment management across private equity real estate and infrastructure. In addition to his time at Panattoni, he has held senior positions at ESR Europe, serving as Chief Operating Officer, and at InfraRed Capital Partners (formerly HSBC Specialist Investments), where he spent two decades as Head of European Real Estate Finance and Operations and as a Partner.
He has a proven record in structuring investment funds, originating and managing over €2.5 billion of debt, and enhancing investment management platforms and fund structures. Thorp also has extensive experience in complex restructurings, fund and SPV acquisitions and disposals, and managing platforms of more than 200 SPVs.
Newcore is currently deploying capital from its fifth value-add fund, NSS V, which closed at £190 million in 2023, and has recently launched a core-plus strategy, the Newcore Social Infrastructure Income Fund (NSIIF), targeting £375 million following a £100 million first close earlier this year.
The firm has also partnered with Swansea Council on a £51 million local impact fund to deliver housing and social infrastructure in the region, bringing total assets under management across its value-add and core-plus strategies to around £700 million.
Supportive long-term tailwinds combined with a liquidity squeeze in the capital markets since 2022 continues to present a compelling window of opportunity for investment in UK social infrastructure. Hiring a Chief Operating Officer of Tim’s calibre marks an important step towards building on our strong track record in this regard, which has thus far consistently delivered outperformance for investors as well as significant positive environmental and social outcomes.
Hugo Llewelyn, CEO of Newcore Capital
Newcore’s longstanding focus on UK social infrastructure makes it a highly attractive conduit for private capital to access long-term, sustainable returns while creating a tangible positive societal impact.
