Artemis Investment Management LLP announces that Peter Saacke, the long-standing manager of the Artemis Funds (Lux) - SmartGARP Global Emerging MarketsEquity, is to retire from fund management at the end of June 2024.

Citywire AAA-rated Raheel Altaf will take over as lead manager of the fund. Raheel joined Artemis as a fund manager in the SmartGARP team in 2014 and is co-manager on the SmartGARP global funds alongside Peter.

Peter, who is also a partner at Artemis, will leave the investment management industry to train as a maths teacher at the Institute of Education at University College London and as a member of NowTeach, the professional network of career changers.[1]

I will always be grateful for having had the opportunity to manage my investors’ funds and to have been part of Artemis’ rise over the last 21 years. I could not think of a better successor of my fund management responsibilities and look forward to cheering on Raheel and the rest of the team from the side lines after my departure from Artemis.

After 21 years as a fund manager and two spells as its CIO I will miss my colleagues greatly. But I am equally excited about starting a new, and very different chapter of my life as a teacher.”

Artemis’ Senior Partner, Mark Murray, added: “Over his long tenure at Artemis, Peter has made many contributions as a fund manager, but also in his eight years as our CIO. When he steps aside from fund management at the end of June, he will do so with our enduring thanks, and we wish him the very best for the next chapter of his life.

Since joining Artemis almost 10 years ago, Raheel Altaf has proven to be an outstanding investment manager and his promotion to the lead role on the SmartGARP Global funds is well deserved. We fully expect Raheel and the wider SmartGARP team to maintain the funds’ record of long-term outperformance for investors.”

Greg Jones, head of distribution, said: “These changes represent a seamless transition for clients given Raheel is currently co-manager and will continue to use the systematic SmartGARP process, whilst being supported by the rest of the team.”
