Utmost, a global provider of insurance-based wealth solutions with assets under administration of £123.4bn (€143.3bn), has announced the launch of Utmost Wealth Portugal, a new distribution company in the country. The move deepens the group's commitment to the Portuguese financial planning and insurance-based wealth solutions market, an area it has been building momentum in since hosting an industry event for more than 75 professionals and partners in April.
The new entity will be headed by Pedro Paixão, who becomes Director of Utmost Wealth Portugal. Paixão brings nearly 19 years of sector experience across financial advice, private banking and wealth markets, having managed Utmost's wealth protection business in Portugal since 2019.
The expansion is part of Utmost's broader European growth strategy, which accelerated following the 2024 acquisition of Lombard International, now rebranded as Utmost Luxembourg. The Portuguese distribution company will be equipped to channel solutions from Utmost's Ireland and Luxembourg entities, giving partners jurisdictional flexibility and wider access to its product range.
Stephen Atkinson, Global Head of Sales and Marketing at Utmost, said the launch reflects the firm's 'deep commitment to Portugal' and its strategy of building 'strong, locally aligned distribution capabilities across Europe.'
Paixão added that Portugal 'continues to evolve as an important hub for international wealth,' driven by globally mobile clients and rising demand for tax-efficient, cross-border planning solutions.
The new company aims to strengthen ties with private banks, family offices, asset managers and financial advisers active in Portugal's private wealth sector.
