Pro talks is a podcast where we want to chat to CEO’s, Founders, and other high profiled executives within the asset management industry. Over the months, we want to go further inside the most relevant figures in the industry, and chat to them about topics such us corporate culture, sustainability, evolution of the industry or diversity.
In this third episode of the year we talked with Hector McNeil, Co-CEO and Founder of HANetf, about how thematic ETFs have democratised investing, and how technology has given access to it at a larger scale. As the owner of a Rugby club Hector also talks about the importance of applying basics from sport, such as taking care of the mental health of his employees to his management style.

"What I have really noticed about the ETF market over the 20 years I have been in, is that the US really leads the way. The US is about 50% retail and the 50% professional, divided by private banks, and institutional clients, pension funds, etc. Europe for a very long time was purely professional market, retail was probably about 10% of participation in the ETF market, and that has changed over time."
"My son who is 20 years old, he is never going to own a checkbook, he is never going to fill forms, and wait a few weeks to know the price of a product, so ETFs are the closest thing he is going to get to Amazon Prime, and to instant gratification."
"Younger generations tend to suffer quite badly from mental health issues, lack of confidence, social media, so the rugby has helped me to bring that to both sides (sport and business)"
