While my childhood dream was to become a chef, life is full of surprises and my career is one of them.
The decision to embark on a career in finance happened somewhat by chance, starting with an internship in a bank fresh out of studying economics. I met some great mentors who nurtured my sales skills and I learnt that the office could perhaps be as dynamic as a kitchen. I was inspired to continue.
I now feel very privileged in my role, as I find great interest and fulfilment in the variety of activities and topics we tackle. As someone who enjoys continually learning, the financial sector presents complex problems that require analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, and I have found it the perfect sector in which to build my career.
Every day is completely different and presents fresh opportunities and challenges, which I think is always enjoyable and keeps work fun.
Whether I'm in the office or travellying, I still like to keep a structured approach to my day; planning ahead and ensuring I spend all my time effectively. My time is divided among various activities such as following the latest developments on the markets, being alert to the macro environment, interacting with investors on a range of themes, meeting various people with different backgrounds and hosting or assisting at industry events.
The most satisfying aspect of my job is undoubtedly working in an international environment, collaborating with diverse and talented teams across Europe and the world, alongside the fact that there is no set routine!
First, an interesting and diversified product range is crucial. Then successful fund distribution requires adaptation, innovation, an understanding of the investment landscape and effective marketing and branding.
But beyond everything, our industry is a people’s business and at the heart of successful fund distribution lies the ability to listen to and understand your investors’ unique needs, being able to provide a high quality service, offering tailored solutions and building and sustaining trusted relationships with investors.
Finally, it is important to constantly challenge yourself on how you can improve the service you bring to investors to stay competitive. It's not just about reacting; it's about staying ahead.
Working in the financial markets is a consistently exciting adventure.
Throughout my tenure in the financial sector, there have been many interesting situations, however the most challenging period personally and professionally was the Coronavirus pandemic. Obstacles became a normal part of our lives and we had to adapt our relationships with the clients and meet their expectations different ways. I keep on being impressed by how the markets adapt and each crisis also brings opportunities, and it was an opportunity to strengthen client relationships as we adjusted and worked together in a world that felt very new.
This is challenging to guess, as many new topics continue to emerge in our ever-changing world as we are confronted with economic uncertainty, geopolitical instability and the consequences of profound technological change.
I would particularly emphasise the last challenge, or opportunity; that is technological innovation. AI or machine learning, for example, creates and will continue to create growth opportunities, structural tailwinds and will shape future industries. Investors can benefit from the long-term potential of these technological changes and the significant impact they will have on individuals, businesses, and financial markets by identifying companies at the forefront of innovation who continue to develop breakthroughs and push the boundaries of technology.
Have you been recently? London is an outstanding city that continually inspires and invigorates. Even after spending almost eight years in the capital, each day continues to bring something new. What captivates me most about London is its diversity paired with its rich multicultural environment. Whether you are passionate about music, art, fashion, culture, history, green spaces or culinary delights, London provides the perfect balance of all.
And, it doesn’t even rain that much.
Being on the road a lot, I cherish spending quality time with my family and friends in my free time.
I also enjoy staying active by engaging in sports, particularly swimming, running, hiking or climbing which helps me maintain both my physical and mental health.
Having grown up by the seaside, whenever possible I try to be near to the sea to recharge and I love escaping to destinations like Brittany or the Basque Country, or when possible further afield to Costa Rica or Japan.
I am also a big fan of literature and art, so it would not be surprising to find me during the weekend in one of the many art galleries or new exhibitions London has to offer or reading a book in one of the many parks.
