Aegon Asset Management has announced the launch of the Aegon Insured Credit Fund, a vehicle that brings its insurance-backed credit strategy closer to institutional investors in Europe and the United Kingdom.
For George Nijborg, head of Insurance-Backed Strategies and European Private Placements at Aegon AM, it is an important step to open this market to institutions. The fund is based on an alternative fixed income platform that exceeds 80,000 million euros in managed assets.
Established as a reserved alternative investment fund (RAIF) domiciled in Luxembourg, the vehicle provides access to the global market for insurance wrapped financing. It invests in credit operations originated worldwide and fully insured by international companies with A and AA ratings.
The goal, according to the manager, is to offer attractive risk-adjusted returns and capital-efficient, with a strong integration of ESG criteria. The fund has an evergreen character, with liquidity options aligned with the characteristics of the underlying portfolio.
Aegon AM has designed it to respond to the continued demand for low-risk private credit strategies and capital-efficient.
The manager has been managing insurance-backed strategies since the 1980s and has extensive experience in the markets for state-guaranteed credit and insurance coverage. The fund has a dedicated team between the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, supported by the global Analysis and Responsible Investment teams.
According to the manager's data as of August 31, 2026, the strategy has shown solid performance against its objectives and, to date, has not recorded negative credit risk migrations or credit losses.
Nijborg highlights the journey of this product among financial entities and the role it can play for institutional investors:
"Credit insurance is a consolidated and efficient credit substitution product widely used by financial entities, especially banks. With this fund, we take an important step to continue opening this scalable market to institutional investors. Backed by our solid track record and our advantage as pioneers, the Aegon Insured Credit Fund takes advantage of this opportunity by facilitating investors' access to our insurance expertise, rigorous ESG analysis, and a broad global origination network."
