Aubrey Capital Management, the specialist investment manager based in Edinburgh and London, has announced that Sharon Bentley-Hamlyn, co-founder and Director of the firm, will retire at the end of September 2024. A prominent figure in the firm for nearly two decades, Sharon has played a key role in managing the Aubrey European Conviction Strategy since 2008.
As part of Sharon’s retirement, Aubrey Capital Management has informed clients that the Aubrey European Conviction Fund will close on 18 September 2024. Additionally, the firm has announced plans to close the SVS Aubrey Europe Ex UK Fund. Sharon’s leadership of the European Conviction Strategy has positioned her as one of the top-performing, AAA-rated fund managers in the industry.
Beyond her success in fund management, Sharon has been a trailblazer in sustainability practices, spearheading the development of Aubrey’s proprietary ESG analysis. This initiative helped the European Conviction Fund achieve SFDR Article 8 status, a testament to its commitment to sustainable investing.
In addition to her fund management expertise, Sharon has been a significant leader within Aubrey, contributing to the firm’s Board, management committees, and most notably founding and leading the firm’s Sustainability Committee. Under her guidance, Aubrey became a signatory to the UN Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), affirming its commitment to responsible investing.
Sharon has also been a passionate advocate for mentorship and the advancement of women in finance. She has supported numerous investment analysts at Aubrey and has been actively involved with organisations like 100 Women in Finance, The Woman Fund, and Future Asset, encouraging young women to pursue careers in investment management.
We are deeply grateful for Sharon’s outstanding contributions to Aubrey over the past 18 years. Her leadership in driving our European equity strategy has been instrumental to our success and in developing the depth and breadth of our investment team.
While we will miss Sharon’s presence at Aubrey, we celebrate her remarkable legacy and wish her all the best in her future endeavours. I have no doubt that she will continue to make a significant impact wherever her path leads next.
Aubrey Capital Management extends its deepest gratitude to Sharon for her years of dedication, leadership, innovation and wishes her every success in her future ventures and projects.
