Allianz GI announced today the incorporation of Christian Schulz as the new Chief Economist. In his new role, Schulz will lead the manager's Global Economics and Strategy team, which prepares macroeconomic studies and market outlooks that support the entity's investment teams, while also producing articles and comments for clients.
Christian, who will join on July 1, 2025, will work from Frankfurt and will report to Michael Krautzberger, CIO of Quoted Markets at Allianz GI.
Christian joins Allianz GI from Citigroup Global Markets, where he was recently Deputy Chief European Economist, co-leading Citi's European Economics team covering Germany, Switzerland and the ECB since 2021. Before that, he spent six years as an economist at Citi, including the position of UK chief economist from 2016 to 2021. Prior to Citi, he worked at Berenberg, the European Central Bank and The Boston Consulting Group.
Christian Schulz holds a PhD and a master's degree (Diplom-Volkswirt) in Economics from the University of Hamburg and a bachelor's degree in Financial Economics from the University of St Andrews.
Christian's arrival is the latest proof that AllianzGI welcomes some of the best talents in the industry. He joins us with the rare ability to combine a deep understanding of long-term economic forecasts, both European and global, with the interpretation of short-term data, as well as a deep understanding of how modern methods such as AI can help refine our view of the environment.
Christian will work closely with our portfolio management teams, especially in the asset classes most influenced by macroeconomics. His international experience makes him an ideal candidate for our global and collaborative culture. With regular presence in the media, our clients can expect to see and hear Christian share his expertise with them in the coming months.
Michael Krautzberger, CIO of Quoted Markets at Allianz GI
