Candriam announced today the appointment of Florence Pisani as chief economist following the retirement of Anton Brender, the company's chief economist since 2002. Emile Gagna, economist since 2004, becomes deputy director of Economic Research.
Florence Pisani will succeed Anton Brender in January 2025. She joined Candriam in 2002 as an economist, after starting her career at CPR Gestion in 1993. Appointed director of economic studies in 2016, she has since overseen, in close collaboration with Anton Brender, the essential economic analyses and macroeconomic outlooks, both for Candriam's management teams and investor clients. Florence Pisani, PhD in Economics from the University Paris-Dauphine, combines her experience as a teacher.
Emile Gagna, economist since 2004, is appointed deputy director of economic research. Emile has written several works with Anton Brender and Florence Pisani, among them Economy of Debt (2021), Money, Finance and Real Economy (2015), and The Sovereign Debt Crisis (2012). He is also a lecturer at the University of Paris Dauphine. Emile Gagna is a graduate of ENSAE and holds a Master's degree in Economics and Finance, as well as a Master's degree in Applied Mathematics and Social Sciences from the University of Paris Dauphine.
Anton Brender joined Candriam in 2002, after having been director of CEPII, then chief economist and president of CPR Gestion. A PhD in Economics from the University of Paris I, Anton played a key role in the development of the company, both for the quality of his economic analyses and for the training of a new generation of economists who are now preparing to succeed him. For 22 years, he was able to guide Candriam's teams through economic uncertainties and periods of recovery, thus providing Candriam's clients with a clear and sharp vision in all circumstances.
Parallel to his professional career, Anton Brender also developed a distinguished academic career. Long-time associate professor at the University Paris-Dauphine, he passed on his knowledge to numerous generations of students. His periodic publications leave a lasting testimony of his detailed understanding of macroeconomic dynamics. The Academy of Moral and Political Sciences has just awarded him the Grammaticakis-Neumann Prize for his essay Democracies facing capitalism. The price of human life.
Anton Brender is an emblematic figure of Candriam, but also of the Parisian and European financial centers. He was able to guide the Candriam teams through economic uncertainties and recovery periods. His experience and his concern for the transmission of knowledge have had an extraordinary impact on our teams, but also generally throughout the asset management industry. Florence is a more than natural choice to succeed Anton. Her appointment is part of the desire to ensure continuity in the excellence of analysis, relying on the exceptional career of an economist whose experience is recognized by the entire profession.
