Lazard Asset Management (LAM) announced today the appointment of Eric Van Nostrand as Global Head of Markets and Chief Economist. The position, specifically created, involves a direct report to LAM's CEO, Evan Russo. Van Nostrand will have the task of collaborating with the company's investment and research teams, providing macroeconomic insights and market perspectives to support strategic decisions.
The new Chief Economist will also be part of Lazard's executive leadership team for the Asset Management business. His responsibilities include guiding the company's economic and market analysis for the company and its clients, as well as overseeing and developing high-level investment content.

Eric Van Nostrand brings with him a wealth of high-profile experiences. Until recently, he held the position of Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Economic Policy, serving as Chief Economist at the US Treasury Department under the guidance of Secretary Janet Yellen. In this role, he received the Alexander Hamilton Award, the highest honor of the US Treasury.
Prior to his government experience, Van Nostrand had a long career in the private sector at BlackRock, where he worked as a portfolio manager and Managing Director, managing systematic equity funds and serving as Head of Research for Multi-Asset Strategies. His academic background is equally prestigious: he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and earned a Law degree from Yale Law School.
