Polar Capital Global Financials Trust (PCFT) has appointed Tom Dorner as co-portfolio manager, enhancing its leadership team six months after his joining the investment manager.
Tom Dorner joins the existing co-managers Nick Brind and George Barrow, following the planned retirement of veteran manager John Yakas at the end of June. Yakas, who has been with the fund since its inception, will step back into an advisory role as announced in February last year.
Nick Brind and George Barrow bring extensive experience to the team, with Brind managing the fund since its inception in 2013 and Barrow being promoted to co-manager in 2019 after joining the team in 2008.
The board of PCFT expressed confidence in Dorner's appointment, stating:
The board welcomes the appointment of Tom as co-manager of the trust. Tom's appointment further strengthens the experienced team responsible for the management of the company's portfolio and assets.
Dorner brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Prior to joining Polar Capital in December 2023, he spent nine years at abrdn's developed markets team as a senior investment director, where he managed the abrdn Europe ex UK Income Equity fund. His career also includes significant roles at Lehman Brothers, Stifel, and Citi, where he developed a robust background in financial markets and investment management.
Dorner's extensive background and fresh perspective are expected to complement the experienced team at PCFT, ensuring the continuity and growth of the trust’s investment strategies. His addition is seen as a strategic move to bolster the fund's management capabilities and maintain its strong performance record.
The transition marks a new chapter for PCFT as it continues to navigate the global financial markets. The trust, which focuses on financial services companies worldwide, is poised to benefit from Dorner's insights and expertise in developed markets and equity management.
With the combined experience of Brind, Barrow, and Dorner, PCFT aims to continue delivering robust returns for its investors while navigating the complexities of the global financial landscape. The fund's management team is well-positioned to leverage their collective expertise to drive the trust's future success.
