Shakeb Syed is set to join Norwegian asset manager Odin Fonder as Head of Asset Allocation this autumn, following his departure from DNB Asset Management after a seven-year tenure. In his new role, Syed will oversee equities, bonds, and long-term return strategies for the firm.
At Odin Fonder, Shakeb Syed will take on the leadership of asset allocation, managing approximately NOK 20 billion (€1.7 billion) in assets. His responsibilities will encompass the firm's equity, bond, and overarching investment strategies, contributing to Odin Fonder's continued growth in the institutional pension fund management sector.
Syed expressed his enthusiasm for the new role on LinkedIn, stating, "The fact that Odin is an independent and robust asset management firm in Norway and Sweden with roots dating back to 1990, while also being anchored in SpareBank 1, made this opportunity especially attractive to me."
Syed brings a wealth of experience from his time at DNB Asset Management, where he was a portfolio manager within the global tactical asset allocation team. At DNB, he managed a variety of funds, including Norwegian bonds, global blend equities, and several mixed asset sub-sectors. These funds were predominantly team-managed, with Syed collaborating closely with colleagues such as Kevin Dalby, Kjartan Farestveit, and Torje Gundersen.
Odin Fonder has highlighted the rapid expansion of its asset management activities, particularly in institutional pension fund management. Syed's appointment is expected to further enhance the firm's investment capabilities and strategic direction. His extensive background in global tactical asset allocation and experience in managing diverse fund types will be instrumental in steering Odin Fonder's investment strategies towards achieving robust long-term returns.
Shakeb Syed's transition to Odin Fonder as Head of Asset Allocation marks a significant development for the Norwegian asset manager. His leadership and expertise in equities, bonds, and comprehensive investment strategies are anticipated to drive the firm's continued growth and success in the competitive asset management landscape. As Syed takes on this pivotal role, Odin Fonder is poised to strengthen its position and deliver enhanced value to its clients.
