Wellington Management, one of the world’s largest independent investment managers with more than US$1.3 trillion in assets under management, has announced the appointment of Alex Behm as Head of Secondaries for Venture Growth Evergreen within Private Investing, supporting the continued expansion of its evergreen private markets platform.
In this role, Alex will lead the development and execution of secondaries investments for the Venture Growth Evergreen platform, working alongside Wellington’s established direct private investment teams. The evergreen structure is designed to deliver improved liquidity, vintage-year diversification, and access to high-quality private assets, combining direct venture and growth investments with secondary transactions.
The strategy will include direct, GP-led, and LP-led secondaries, complementing primary investments. Alex will work closely with Mike Trihy, who leads the expansion of Wellington’s evergreen private investing platform.
Alex brings over 11 years of experience in secondaries investing and joins Wellington from Hamilton Lane, where he served as a Deal Lead on the Secondaries team, sourcing and negotiating transactions across general partners, limited partners, and intermediaries. He began his career at Butcher’s Hill Capital.
As companies remain private for longer, the secondaries market—particularly in late-stage venture and growth—has continued to mature, with transaction volumes expected to exceed US$210 billion in 2025. Integrating secondaries into the Venture Growth Evergreen platform aims to enhance both diversification and liquidity.
Our evergreen platform is designed to provide ongoing access to private markets with thoughtful portfolio construction and measured liquidity. With evergreen market assets expected to grow by more than 50% over the next five years, Alex’s experience will help broaden access while maintaining our high standards for diligence and governance.
